And of course, one should always beware of the dreaded caliente and excitado, both of which, if you're not careful (and sometimes even if you are) refer to sexual excitement, not warmth and being excited. Ponerse, in reflexive form, means to wear, to don, to put on (clothing).2) I am hot, I am cold. "I am cold" is "tengo frío", which literally means "I have cold." But you would not want to say "Estoy frío", and certainly not "Soy frío", as people might get the wrong idea about your ability to bear children.3) It is raining. Hace llueve. This means "it does rain", but that's just the idiom. Hace nieve, it's snowing. Hace calor, it's hot.
